VirTech Bio Adds US and European Patents for OxyBridge™ in 2026

VirTech Bio has been granted two further patents covering OxyBridge™ this year, bringing the company’s issued patent portfolio to four across the United States, Europe and Australia.
US Patent 12,582,703 B2, “Blood substitutes comprising hemoglobin and methods of making”, was granted on 24 March 2026. It is a continuation of US Patent 11,504,417 B2, granted in November 2022, and covers the composition of matter and manufacturing method behind OxyBridge™. The new patent reflects the production modifications VirTech Bio developed as the company advanced into manufacturing scale-up and affords more protection.
European Patent EP 4 167 961 B1, “Compositions and methods for treating hemorrhagic shock”, was granted on 29 April 2026 and registered on 29 May 2026 as a Unitary Patent, giving it effect across eighteen European states through a single registration.
Together with Australian Patent 2018304174, granted in October 2025, the four issued patents cover two distinct inventions: the polymerized hemoglobin composition and how it is made, and its use in treating hemorrhagic shock.
A further 18 international applications are pending.
The inventors are W. Richard Light, VirTech Bio’s Chief Scientific Officer, and Joseph Tucker, formerly CEO.
